1. Choose a boat type that fits your wants and needs.

Do some research before shopping to help determine which type of boat is the best fit for you. Ask yourself, “What do I want to do with this boat? Fishing? Watersports? Cruising and relaxing?” This is a good time to consult Google, Youtube, and boat owners that you may know. Ask questions, dig in, and figure out what you like and what is practical.

2. Determine whether you’d like to buy a new or used boat.

Both have their benefits, it is recommended that you shop new first. This will help you decide which type of boat is best for you and you’ll familiarize yourself with the market price. Then you can shop for used boats and compare the two.

3. Go to local boat shops, browse listings, work with a broker, or attend a boat show.

Get out there and find those deals, they are out there! You can find a good deal at anytime of the year. With so many boat shows across the country, there is always a “show special” going on somewhere.

4. Narrow down your options.

Pool all of your research together and narrow your boat choices down to a few that you really like. This is a good time to consider options that include warranties or financing.

5. Before you buy, conduct a good walkaround and a test drive.

Take all of the precautions that you need to ensure that you have made a comfortable and confident boat buying decision.
